SERVANT MINISTRY

COMMITTEE MEMBER:  Servant Ministry meets approximately once a quarter. Participate in many exciting projects throughout the year that demonstrate a caring ministry throughout the world, the nation and our local community.

BLOOD DONOR : Donate blood and/or urge others to donate by your example; usually three blood drives a year,  in the spring, summer and fall.

RUMMAGE SALE VOLUNTEER: Boundless opportunities, including set up and sort items before the sale, work on the day(s) of the sale, prepare food for workers, and clean up after the sale.  The rummage sale is held during the summer, usually in June.

WELLNESS TEAM: Provide services to the congregation, such as blood pressure checks; for those with medical training.

School backpacks project: Collect school supplies for children who might not otherwise be able to afford them; publicize the project, the sort supplies, and deliver them to the schools. Our congregation is very supportive of this project.

Christmas PROJECT: Collects items for the less fortunate in our local community during the holiday season; contact the recipients persons or agencies, find out what items are needed, publicize the project to the congregation and collect, sort, and arrange to have gifts delivered or picked up by the receiving agencies.

Alternative Christmas HELPER: Help organize the mid-November Alternative Christmas market; contact workers and organize a light meal for those attending, shop for items to sell, oversee booths and checkout, and clean up after the event.

FILL THE ARK PROJECT: Select and announce to the congregation an animal fund-raising project for each month of the year.  These funds provide assistance to needy families.

GLOBAL MISSIONS (Missionary support): Publicize and increase congregational awareness of the missionaries we sponsor and ways we might partner with them.

BRAZOSPORT CARES VOLUNTEER: Help out at the local food pantry.

NEIGHBOR DAY: Provide home repair work for the needy in our community during this annual community effort.

COMPASSION IN ACTION: Put “compassion to our feet” by assisting those who cannot do for themselves (for example, drive to doctor appointments or the store  and make visits to whoever may be in need.

Bread for the World Bake Sale: Line up bakers, set up sale tables, and straightening up after this annual Palm Sunday bake sale to benefit Bread for the World and ELCA's World Hunger program.

Society of St. Stephen VOLUNTEER: Make telephone contact with clients as a caseworker; attend a monthly meeting, and inform the congregation of the activities and needs of the Society. Christ Lutheran participates with First United Methodist in the Society to provide funds for emergency use for people in the community. Annually, the Society has a spaghetti dinner to raise funds.

National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice, and Brazosport Cares are organizations in our community which we endorse and encourage the congregation to support. We hope to build strong liaisons between our congregation and these local organizations.
