Worshiping, Learning and Serving together as the Hands of Christ
Week 1: Acts Chapters 1 & 2 God is up to something good!
Join us for the home bible study, the book of Acts, at 7:30 PM 306 Arrowwood, Lake Jackson. Please read chapters 1 & 2.
Think about what Peter said and ask yourself, to whom is the Holy Spirit available?
In
this context, we'll discuss how we have resisted or come to know the
Holy Spirit. What has caused us to open our heart? What gifts or
abilities have you received?
A good idea for our study is to prepare a journal.
Bring your Bible, a pen and notebook (or laptop if you are electronically inclined!).
Week 2: Acts chapters 3 & 4.
A few highlights from week 1 of our home Bible Study. We learned about listening to the Holy
Spirit. We were in awe picturing Jesus,
as he left earth for heaven, returning to the people who had betrayed him, not
to scourge them but to send them out with his message. We discussed what our spiritual gifts are.
Week 3: Acts chapters 4 & 5
Acts 3 & 4Home Bible Study
Tonight we learned of the miracle Peter and John performed in thename of Jesuson the 40 year old crippled man. This was Peter’s opportunity to open people to thelove of Christ. The people were filled with theHoly Spiritand, upon considering the danger of following Christ, they turned towards him and shared all that was God’s among themselves.
Seize the opportunity or even a moment to pray and love someone in need and be the Good News with them. Seize it right away, just like Peter did.
Our next study is7 PM, Monday, March 16at Steve Gluck’s home, 306 Arrowwood, Lake Jackson. Please prepare yourself by reading Acts chapters 5 & 6. Week 4: Chapters 5 & 6
courage and the growth of the church through Peter, John and the disciples in the face of the established religious leaders!
Week 5:Chapters 7 & 8
Stephen relates the stories of the old Testament and tells the crowd that they haven't changed. Prophets continue to be persecuted. Even when the crowd turns on him, he boldly forgives them and looks towards heaven. Peter continues to spread the word allowing the Holy Spirit to guide him. We learned to talk to strangers, listen to people and understand their concerns through the gentleness of the Holy Spirit.
Week 6: Chapters 9 & 10
Peter is lead by the Holy Spirit and Gentiles join the church. The new covenant allows all clean things created by God to be eaten freeing us from the old rules.
Week 7: Chapters 11 & 12
The disciples learn from a prophet that there will be a famine in Judea. Each goes out and helps others based on their own means. King Herod, takes it all in after a pompous and lets the people think he is a god. He subsequently drops dead and is eaten by worms.
Week 8: Chapters 13 & 14 Monday May 11 7 PM
Paul and Barnabus go out and spread the good news. A sorceror giving council to the ruler of Cyprus is blinded by Paul's word when he tries to decieve the ruler. The ruler becomes a believer. In another city, Paul is stoned to near death, he is helped by fellow disciples and continues preaching the news of the new covenant and the resurrection without fear.
Week 9-13: Chapters 15 - 25
These chapters could best be described as "the amazing spirit-led journey, starring Paul!" His mission grows and he humbly returns to Jerusalem after a stint in Greece and Asia. He is caught, the Jews of the time want him put to death, the Romans decide he is too hot to handle after 2 years in prison in Cesarea and he is sent to Rome.
